Hydrogen water bath improves skin rash Dec 13,2023.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common disease worldwide that can occur at any age, usually before the age of five. Typical manifestations are divided into three stages: infancy, childhood and adulthood. Acute inflammation with effusion, usually seen in infancy, and the face and extensor sides are often affected. As age increases, lichenified and scaly chronic inflammation increases, and skin lesions are often limited to the flexural side. Patients with atopic dermatitis often have dry skin, susceptibility to irritants and protein allergens, and an atopic constitution. , such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and laE-mediated systemic manifestations may occur.

This disease is characterized by a high incidence rate, but the clinical treatment effect is not ideal. The effects of bathing with hydrogen water have been reported in animal experiments and a small number of cases. Juntendo University in Japan once again reported 6 cases, and the results showed good results. It is worthy of large-scale clinical trials.
This study aimed to determine whether hydrogen water bathing has the potential to have a therapeutic effect in a pilot study of six patients with atopic dermatitis.

method:
In addition to visual observation, atopic dermatitis severity was assessed based on the itching intensity of the visual analog scale (VAS) and the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) value of the skin lesions.

Research result
Eight weeks of hydrogen water bathing improved the severity of the rash and increased TEWL levels in areas of the trunk/extremities that could be fully immersed in the bath water, thereby improving severe itching. The specificity of its therapeutic effect was further studied in a patient who first received hydrogen water bath therapy for four weeks, stopped for two weeks, and then continued treatment for another four weeks. The rash on the trunk/limbs area improved significantly after four weeks of hydrogen bathing, but worsened again after two weeks of discontinuation, and only improved again after four weeks of resumption of hydrogen bathing. VAS and TEWL values also showed changes reflecting skin condition.
in conclusion
These results suggest that hydrogen water bathing may be useful in the treatment of AD. In order to conclude the effectiveness of hydrogen water bathing on atopic dermatitis, future randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes and longer studies are needed.
