What is SPE?

SPE electrolyzed water hydrogen production technology, its full name is solid polymer electrolyte electrolyzed water hydrogen production technology, SPE is a registered trademark of United Technologies Corporation Hamilton Standards Department, the full text is (Solid Polymer Electrolyte), that is, solid polymer electrolyte. The core of the SPE membrane electrode is that the electrocatalyst is directly attached to the membrane to form a "metal + SPE" composite membrane electrode structure. The liquid electrolyte is replaced by an ion-membrane solid electrolyte. The product is easy to separate and can inhibit side reactions. The gas phase reactants are directly connected to the electrode. It greatly accelerates the mass transfer speed of the reactants and other advantages, so that SPE technology integrates reaction and separation. It has high energy efficiency and can simplify the structure of the battery. Therefore, it is widely used in hydrogen, methanol fuel cells, and water electrolysis. Electro-organic synthesis, electro-reduction of carbon dioxide, ozone production, electrochemical hydrogen pump or oxygen pump and sensor production. It was developed by General Electric Company of the United States in the late 1950s and was successfully applied to the fuel cell of the Gemini spacecraft for the first time in the early 1960s. In the early 1970s, it began to be applied to hydrogen production by electrolysis of water, and it is currently used in hydrogen production industries around the world.


Why choose SPE technology?


Usually the hydrogen-rich water cups on the market use traditional electrolysis of water technology to produce hydrogen and oxygen, because hydrogen and oxygen are produced by electrolysis of water. Since pure water is not conductive, mineral water must be used. Pure water cannot be used. Mineral water contains a variety of minerals. During the electrolysis process, the chloride in the minerals will react to produce chlorine. This is why the raw water does not contain chlorine and some hydrogen-rich water cups will produce chlorine after preparation.

The water cup of SPE proton exchange membrane hydrogen-oxygen separation technology, whether it is pure water or mineral water, can be used to produce hydrogen. Moreover, because the electrolytic waste (for example: ozone, residual chlorine, metal compounds), like oxygen, cannot pass through the proton membrane, it is discharged from the vent on the upper right at the same time as the oxygen, and will not enter the cup with hydrogen.
